What a wonderful and rare English jewel! From the Georgian Regency Era of the 1830's comes this romantic locket full of meaning and message. This sentimental jewel is referred to as acrostic with the first letter of each gemstone spelling out a word, in this case Ruby Emerald Garnet Amethyst Ruby Diamond. REGARD, in this era, a term of endearment between friends, family members, lovers, or husband and wife. 
Further meaning comes from the decorative pansy motif used in the romantic language of flowers to send the message, "thinking of you". 
This wonderful book shape locket is made of 15 Karat yellow gold with green and rose gold applied accents. The locket originally probably held sentimental keepsakes, romantic notes, or could have been used as a vinaigrette. 
The book locket measures 1x 3/4x 1/4 inch with 11/16 inch drop from the bail. Circa 1820's-30''s. Excellent antique condition.
